Sheri Candler is a digital marketing strategist. Through the use of content marketing tools such as social networking, podcasts, blogs, and online media publications, as well as relationship building with organizations & influencers, she assists filmmakers in building an engaged & robust online community for their work that will help develop and sustain their careers.

She is a strong advocate for Audience Centered Production of films which dictates that the audience and goals behind making the project are clearly identified, ways to communicate with them are established as are appropriate formats and distribution channels, BEFORE a production is started. She also believes filmmakers should benefit directly from their work rather than depend on profits through middle men.

Sheri has been involved in many indie film campaigns including "YELLOWBRICKROAD" (Slamdance 2010); “The High Level Bridge” (Sundance 2011); “Ride The Divide" (2011); “Undertow (Contracorriente)” (2011). In 2012, she helped to distribute the feature documentary "Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance" which screened theatrically in over 90 venues, is available on DVD/digital and was broadcast nationally on PBS American Masters series. Through her work, the production was able to connect with the ballet audience worldwide.

She directs digital marketing strategy for non profit film distribution & filmmaker education organization The Film Collaborative;she is the co author of a new book of case studies from filmmakers called "Selling Your Film Without Selling Your Soul," and she regularly speaks about using social media on panels and workshops at industry events including AFM, DGA, NSI Canada, & Danish Film Directors Assoc.

Mindset change for filmmakers

This presentation was given at Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam June 2013. For those working in media (not just filmmaking), an understanding of how audiences are consuming media and communicating with the creators is essential. Going forward, creators cannot stay behind the scenes. Everyone is audience-facing and knowing how to interact online is helpful to your work and your career.

Ben Niles Talks About Note by Note

One of Jon’s chapters concerns the film Note by Note, a documentary about the making of a Steinway concert grand #L1037 piano from forest floor to concert hall. The film was completed in 2006 when the talk of internet distribution and social media marketing of films had hardly begun. Back then, the conventional route of getting a sales agent, premiering at a major film festival like Sundance or Toronto to start a…

The Distributor ReportCard

My friends at The Film Collaborative have devised a resource for indie filmmakers to use called the Distributor ReportCard. According to their site "Distributor ReportCard™ gives filmmakers and producers a chance to SCHOOL THE DISTRIBUTORS. Write reviews, share your experiences and learn from other filmmakers' successes or mistakes.

Simply click on one of the distributors to the left and you'll be taken to the info page for that distributor. All information is gathered…

That's a shame. There's a really big Indie community in Atlanta. This is also the first time Dov has come to Atlanta. Things are really starting to happen here. If he does come back, I'll definitely be there.

Hi Sheri,
Thanks so much for the invite. Unfortunately, I'll be attending Dov Simen's Two Day Film School on that same weekend. Wish I could make it. Let me know when the next one is.
