Hello!
I'm looking to collaborate with a DP who has a huge heart and a HD camera (preferably an HVX or better) to shoot a short film on L.A. County Jail in downtown L.A. Here's some brief background information on the jail:
*It's the largest jail in the world.
*It houses a mentally ill population which exceeds the largest psychiatric facility in the country.
*Sheriff Lee Baca, who technically is in charge of the facility, has gone on record as saying it should be shut down.
This short film seeks to explore the history of the facility, some stories from inmates and employees, as well as how it is emblematic of L.A.'s mental health crisis among the impoverished and incarcerated. It will also ask the question: what does the future hold for a facility which houses such an enormous mentally ill population and which may be shut down soon?
This film will be an activist tool to effect change on the conditions within the facility as well as jumpstart a dialogue about mental health treatment in Los Angeles. What do I mean by an activist tool? My vision is to screen it for public officials and activists--in the same room--in order to get a conversation going, record this screening and get it up on the Web for the world to see. If you're interested, feel free to contact me. There is no pay for anyone involved, but it is an opportunity to make a difference as an artist as well as to bring your creativity to the table. Let's make something visually interesting as well as powerful. Thanks for your time and consideration!
